unnamedI started my yoga journey nearly 40 years ago, practicing under several inspiring and accomplished teachers, but in most of that time Yoga was a weekly practice which I loved and derived benefit from but did not often enough take ‘off the mat’ and integrate with the rest of my life. A personal and professional crisis in 2012 resulted in a period of sick leave from my job managing social workers and occupational therapists in a social care team working with disabled children. It was during this time that I began to understand the power and beauty of Yoga in restoring physical and emotional health and especially quietening the mind. I learned a hard but important life lesson that I can better sustain and enjoy caring for others when I also prioritise taking care of myself.
I enrolled on the 200 hour Beginners Integral Yoga Hatha teacher training in 2013 and graduated December 2013. The experience was life transforming and apart from sustained improvements in my own wellbeing, I have made significant changes in my life and retired from my former work in the summer of 2014.
I finished studying under Rev. Padma Priya, Gentle Yoga teacher training, in 2014 .
I have taught Integral Yoga since January 2014 with Universal Yoga. I have lead one full day yoga workshop and plan to do more similar days in the future. The day workshop seem like mini retreats that allow us to further deepen our Yoga practice and development. So I have been teaching since January 2014 and am very excited about the future possibilities it may bring. During the time I have been privileged to teach, I have found the students a constant source of learning and inspiration.
I am interested in sharing Yoga with a wider audience – perhaps people coming to Yoga later in life or seeking the holistic health and mind benefits that Yoga can give at any stage in their life. I started a Gentle Yoga class in September 2014 at New Oriel Hall on Tuesday mornings. This is floor based with some standing but the class is restorative in its emphasis with Pranayama(breathe) and Yoga Nidra(deep relaxation) as well as asana(posture) work.
